LAWRENCE TIBBETT

Farewell Concert On Tuesday Lawrence Tibbett, famous star of concert, opera and screen, will give a farewell concert in the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday at 8 p.m. A glance at his programmes will show the versatility his audiences demand. And Tibbett meets that demand with the full assurance of ample reserve still there. He gives his best, but such a varied best is to present something individual and appealing to each listener in his audiences. Tibbett is modern, His selections proclaim that he is cosmopolitan in his tastes, and one who dares to forsake the conventional. Even the most hackneyed and worn-out piece becomes something entirely different and entirely beautiful when he singe it. This great artist sings arias, _ art songs, lieder and ballads in his recitals as though each were his forte. It is hard to tell which brand his audience delights the more in his singing—the profoundly musical or the unmusical, -who knows a good thing when thtey hear it. In response to hundreds of requests “The Glory Road” will be sung as an encore. Music lovers are invited to send in the names of encores desired. Letters to be addressed care of the D.I.C. Concerts will also be given in the following centres: —Hastings, September 1; Palmerston North, September 3; New Plymouth, September 5; Auckland, September 13, 15 and 17.
