O’REILLY TAKES SEVEN WICKETS FOR 34

LONDON, August 18. _ Performing very little better in their second innings than in the first, the Army were beaten by Australia at Aidershot to-day by an innings and 67 runs. ?Kustralia S score was taken to 299, and the Army, who made 113 in the first innings, were dismissed in the second innings for 119. Australia resumed their innings in fine and warm weather. Barnes (41) and Barnett (12) reopened from the overnight total of 211 for five wickets. Barnes was soon out l.b.w. after a stay of one hour and a quarter. He batted confidently throughout. Barnett was at the’ top of his form and hit crisply and with severity, including a 4, a 6, and a 4 off successive balls from Knapp before throwing his wicket away. After Harbottle and Grove had added 41 runs for the second wicket, the Army collapsed again. O’Reilly’s spin, flight, and length overpowering the batsmen. They were almost equally futile against Fleetwood-Smith, playing vaguely hopeful strokes. The innings lasted only 105 minutes. Details: —
