H.M.S. REPULSE RETURNS TO HAIFA

(British Official Wireless.) Rugby, August 18. H.M.S. Repulse has returned to Haifa after two days’ Stay at Jaffa.

tenuis than at Montreal, and was plainly at the top of his form. _ His ground strokes had length and vigour, and he took the net at every valid opportunity. His service was machinelike, and he did not miss any chances. Jletaxa was far from being as good as Amigishi, but he was trying hard, and was offering considerable opposition. He was bad on the backhand, and both in volleying and off the ground, but his service was strong and it troubled Quist occasionally, while his drop-shots were tantalising. Nine Games in a Row, Quist took nine games in a row, amassing 36 points to his opponent’s eight. He was winning at will, and took the first four games in the third set before Jletaxa was able to stem the tide and win a game, but it was not genuine opposition and Quist romped to victory. He was momentarily delayed in the final game when he stood 40-love, by his opponent’s placements, but he won it from 40-30 with lobs that Jletaxa outed.

Quist made nine service aces, 22 placements, four double-faults, 19 nets, and 10 outs. Jletaxa had four service aces, 19 placements, three doublefaults, 27 nets, and 26 outs. U.S. DOUBLES TOURNEY

Interesting Pairings

(Received August 19, 9.30 p.m.)

Boston (Mass.), August 18.

The national doubles draw shows interesting pairings. The American and foreign stars are separately seeded. Among the foreign pairs are Bromwich and Quist (Australia), seeded first. Henkel and Jletaxa (Germany) second, and Petra and Destremcaux (France) third.

Among the Americans are Budge and Make, seeded first, Wood and Hunt second, Allison and Van Ryn third. Hopman and Schwartz (Australia) surprisingly are not seeded. It seems to be indicated that without upsets Bromwich and Quist will meet Budge and Jlako in the final.
