Safety And Health In Mines

Sydney, August 19.

The Central Council of the Miners’ Federation to-day informed the Premier, Mr. B. S. B. Stevens, of its oflicial acceptance of the proposed mine safety and health tribunal.

Eight of the ' thirteen collieries at Cessnock field were idle to-day for various reasons, chiefly on. account of the strikes. The management of one colliery sounded the “no work” whistle because of the miners’ restriction of output during the strike negotiations.

TERMS FOR SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTE

Sydney, August 19.

At a compulsory conference at Newcastle terms for settlement of the dispute at the North Wallarah group of collieries were reached. It is expected that the miners will endorse them at a meeting of the lodge concerned today.
