Objects Of New Organisation
A meeting having as its object the formation of a New Zealand Institute of Valuers was held in the State Fire Building, Wellington, on Thursday. The delegates present were Messrs. N. 11. Mackie (chairman), A. W. A. Sweetman, T. E. Lough, E. Eggleston, T. Crosbie, A. F. Blackburn and W. G. Boswell, representing the New Zealand Government Valuers’ Institute; Mr. F. N. Martin, representing municipal valuers; Messrs. G. B. Osmond and W. J. A. Thomson, representing the Auckland Valuers’ Association ; Messrs. J. G. Harcourt, A. A. Gellatly, V. Monrad, 11. E. Leighton and W. H. Leighton, representing the .North Island Valuers’ Association, and Mr. O. F. Baker, representing South Island valuers.
The draft constitution and rules were adopted subject to revision by a subcommittee.
It was estimated that the new institute would have a membership of 350. Mr. Martin stressed the necessity for a panel of valuers specially appointed in the case of trustee valuations. The main objects of the new institute are:— To raise the status of the profession of valuers; to improve and elevate the technical knowledge of members; to train and examine students entering the profession; to promote a high standard of integrity in the members; and ultimately to obtain a Royal charter. ■, Officers were appointed as follows: President, Mr. N. 11. Mackie; vicepresidents, Messrs. G. B. Osmond and E. Eggleston; council, Messrs. O. F. Baker, F. N. Martin, A. W. A. Sweetman, V. E. Lough and L. D Ritchie. It was decided to hold the next conference in October, when the revised rules will be adopted and the institute incorporated.
