RECRUITING CAMPAIGN
Territorial Enlistments At
Lower Hutt
ENCOURAGING RESPONSE
The young men of Lower Hutt are responding well to the Territorial recruiting campaign now being carried on there. Last night. 20 signed up. The idea is to strengthen the 17th Battery (Medium) and the C Compiifiy, First Battalion, Wellington Regiment. The battery unit lias been well down in strength, but it is hoped by means of the campaign to bring it to the full number required. A camouflaged general service van is being used as an enlistment office under StaffSergeant Baigent and Permanent Staff men who were assisted last night by officers and men of the Lower Hutt Company. A full window has been placed at the disposal of the authorities, and the recruiting van is stationed outside the premises. The window exhibits are representative of the work and equipment of the units for which recruits are being sought. The display will be shifted later to Petone, and the recruiting van will be in that borough for some days. The mayors of Lower Hutt and Petone have given every assistance to the authorities and the firms displaying the equipment are providing window space, windowdressing service and lighting free of cost.
