Construction At Addington Workshops

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, August 11.

“The staff at the Addington railway workshops is very busy at the present time on a substantial programme of new rolling stock, the benefit of which will be felt before the busy summer season approaches.” stated the Minister of Railways, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in an interview.

“Five combined sleeping-cars and two ilrst-class cars are under construction for the Christchurch-Invercargill service. There are also 13 second-class cars of the latest type being built, all of which will be completed before Christinas. Sixty ‘J’ sheep wagons, 37 of which have been turned out of the workshops and put into traffic in the last few weeks, are also in the course of completion, and 300 ‘L-A’ (open goods) wagons are under construction and will all be completed in time for the Christmas traffic.

“The department.” added Mr. Sullivan. “is also assisting other Government departments and is at present manufacturing 700 coal tubs for the Mines Department, and 80 side-tip trucks for the use of the Public Works Department on construction works.”
