HOSPITAL LAUNDRY
Answer To Charges Of . “Sweating” By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, August 11. An answer of charges of “sweating” in the laundry of the Rotorua Hospital is provided in the report of a special visiting committee to the Rotorua Hospital tabled at a meeting of the Waikato board to-day. The committee met Mr. Tai Mitchell, the Maoris’ representative at Rotorua and discussed the position with him, and it was shown that the board had done everything possible to give girl workers a fair deal.
Mr. Banks, a member of the board, expressed the opinion that Mr. Mitchell would be gentleman enough to state publicly that he had been labouring under a misunderstanding about the whole matter. The wages and holidays enjoyed by the girls were as good as provided under the award. Double time was paid to every girl working on a holiday.
