ELECTRIC TRAINS
New Office For Dispatch
Foreman
A small room at the end of No. 3 platform at the Wellington railway station is being altered to provide accommodation for the passenger foreman, whose duty it is to dispatch the electric trains to Johnsonville. Windows and other improvements are being provided. The room was previously used by train examiners, multiple-unit drivers and porters. The passenger foreman, who also dispatches other trains, is at present accommodated in an office at the Featherston Street side of the main station building, and when the room at the end of .No. 3 platform becomes available he. will have easier and quicker access to departure points. The change has been brought about by the introduction of the electric train service to Johnsonville and is expected to result in a general improvement. During the peak periods electric trains are dispatched from Wellington at 12-minute intervals, in addition to which steam services are constantly arriving and departing at other platforms.
