By Telegraph--Press Association. Christchurch, August 10.

The Kaikanui Hotel, Kaiapoi, was destroyed by fire early this morning. There was a fierce southerly gale blowing at the time, and the hotel, which was a wooden building containing about 20 rooms, was quickly destroyed. Nothing was saved. The licensee, Mr. W. Clark, and Mrs. Clark and their two young children had to make a hurried escape in their night attire. The hotel was owned by Mr. J. 11. Spence, Christchurch.
