COALMINERS’ CLAIMS
Debate On Australian Log Continues (Received Avgust 9, 9.40 .p.m.) Sydney, August 9. Debate continues at the coalminers’ convention on the log of claims, but due secrecy is being maintained and it is not easy to ascertain the trend of the discussion. It is known, however, that tlie executive intends <to submit a log when completed to aggregate meetings of miners throughout Australia. The convention to-day drafted a reply rejecting the premier’s offer of a tribunal.
The Sydney County Council has decided to purchase heavy stocks of coal from various fields and to continue to supplement its present reserve of 96,000 tons. Consideration is also being given to bringing coal consignments from New Zealand.
