LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

Hutt County Urges Changes

A remit suggesting that all local body elections and polls should take place between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. will be forwarded to the New Zealand Counties’ Association by the Hutt County Council as the result of a decision made by the council at a meeting yesterday. . . . In a note attached to the remit, it is stated that at the recent elections in the Hutt Valiev the River Soard closed its poll at 6 p.m. In cases where combined, booths were arranged, on opening the River Board ballot box at 6 p.m. other ballot papers of various elections were found in the River Board boxes. One local body advertising its poll to close at 6 p.m. misled electors about other polls closing at 7 p.m. . . A further remit to the association urges that provision be made for absentee voters to record tnelr votes at county elections and for postal voting.
