Legal Talent Among Cast Of "Wives Under Suspicion"
“Wives under suspicion,” uni- ’’ versal’s dramatic story of the career of a merciless district attorney, should be “legally correct.” Included among the principals in the cast are three attorneys and a former law student.
The attorneys, who know- all about legal procedure and did not hesitate to give director James Whale full benefit of their knowledge, are Gail Patrick, Ralph Morgan and Samuel S. Hinds. William Lundigan studied at Syracuse University' to be a lawyer’, but went into radio and motion picture work before lie qualified. Such are the vagaries of motion pictures, however, that Warren William, who has the role of the prosecutor, never read a line of a law lext book, although he is considered for screen purposes one of the best district attorneys in the business. Gail Patrick is a full-fledged lawyer, and a member of the Bar Associatiou. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama. and qualified at tlio University of Alabama. Her study of law, she says, was to fit her for governorship of her native state. This ambition has been with her ever since she started to go to high school. Shortly after her graduation from the University of Alabama, she entered, purely as a lark, a nationwide contest for a “panther woman, ’ instituted by a Hollywood studio, was given a long-term contract, and made her screen debut in “If I Had a Million.” Gail Patrick was the mother in Deanna Durbin’s "Mad About Music.”
