Italian Movie Star To Play In American Films
A RTISTIC talent, in the opinion of Isa Miranda, an .oustauding actress of the Italian film industry, who has just been taken to Hollywood by Paramount, is common. The trouble is that it is so seldom given a chance. “I believe,” said the Milanese, “that everyone Ims an ability in some great artistic medium. Perhaps it is in music, literature, painting or acting. But the possessor does not always realise it, and even when it is realised it is not frequently developed. “Four vears ago in Milau I was a stenographer, but 1 felt that if given the opportunity I could be a good actress. I could feel it in my heart. But if I had not lost my job it is probable that I would never have put my talent to work.
“The oil company that employed me went bankrupt. I bad to support my parents and my sister, and jobs were hard to find, but I told myself, ‘Perhaps this is the opportunity I have needed. Perhaps now- if I try I can become an actress.’ “I made twelve trips to Rome before I could get into the films, but at last I was employed as an extra. Two months later I was given the leading role in a picture, and I have been acting ever since.”
In three years she had become Italy’s foremost movie actress, and was sent for by both Germany and France to make pictures there. Isa Miranda has been given a long-term contract by Paramount, and it is possible that she will make her debut with Ronald Colman in “If I Were King.”
