PIPING AND DANCING

Meeting Of Wellington

Centre

Improvements in the registration of competitors in the centre’s sports gatherings were discussed at a meeting of tne AA eiliug'ton Centre of the Piping and Dancing Association of New Zealand, held on .Saturday night. Those present ■were: Messrs. U. Stewart (chairman), 'AV. Sutherland, AV. Fraser, AV. E. Boyd, J. W. Brown, A. Barclay, M. Gray Nasmith, and.,T. S. Arcus, Carterton. It was reported that permits for the holding of dancing competitions at sports meetings had been granted to the Bunnythorpe Sports Club, the Shannon Sports Club, the Ahiaruhe-Ponatahi Sports Club, the Sandon Sports Club, and the Masterton Returned Soldiers' Association,

The Dinton Sports Club and the Ma:tawatu Competitions Society were affiliated to the centre.

It was decided that from July 1 all registration cards issued should bear the date of birth of the person registered. It was pointed out that this would mean that a competitor attaining the age of 14 years on tlie day of the competitions could compete that day in a class for “14 years and under 18 years," but lie would not be eligible if the announcement were “over 14 and under 18." If a competitor turned 19 on the day after die competitions, he could compete in a class for “18 years and under." A competitor who turned IS on tlie day of tlie competitions could not compete in a class that day for “under IS," nor in one “over IS.” It was urged that the clearest statements on programmes would be "Lender IS yeans of age,” “18 years of age or over,” or “ 14 years and under 18.” Air. T. S. Arcus was authorised to act as the centre’s representative in the Carterton district.
