AUSTRALIAN EXPORTS

Price Index Rises The Commonwealth Bank’s index of Australian export prices has been advancing steadily for more than a month, according to a report from Australia. At May 12 it had risen to 75.7, and it is now well above the average for April, which was 74.0. The index also is above the averages for February (75.4) and March (74.6), but it. has not yet equalled the figure for January (77.1). The latest increase has been .due mainly to an increase in the price of Australian butter on t|ie London market. The demand for butter has been strong for some weeks under the influence of low New Zealand gradings and a reduction of Australian shipments. Wheat and wool have been steady, and gold has risen slightly. Apples In Good Demand < Received May 29. 6.30 p.m. i London, May 28. Apples are in good demand.
