Traffic On Bend

A fine of £5 with costs 10/- was imposed on Frederick Theobald Chapman, motor-driver, Lower Hutt, at the Magistrates’ Court, Upper Hutt, yesterday, for driving in a manner which might have been dangerous. .His motor-cycle drivers licence was cancelled for three months.

Inspector C. A. J. Peterson, of the Transport Department, said that when motor-cycling toward Wellington at. Kaitoke, Chapman passed a line of ears on a sharp bend coming in the opposite direction, which Chapman somehow avoided. Half a mile further on he did the same thing, but met no oncoming traffic. When accosted Chapman did not seem to realise the seriousness of his actions. MOTORING OFFENCES Fines Imposed At Upper Hutt Stated by Inspector A. C. Crawford to have proceeded around on the outside of several cars in Taita Gorge when he could not see the road ahead clearly, Thomas James Quinn. Brooklyn, was fined £3 with costs 10/- by Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., at the ,Magistrates’ Court, Upper Hutt, yesterday, for driving in a manner that might have been dangerous. Wilson Stanley Croft, Wellington, stated to have done the same thing, was fined £3 with costs 10/-. Speeding in Borough. For speeding through Upper Hutt borough the following were, on the evidence of Inspectors C. A. J. Peterson and Crawford, each fined £3 with costs 10/-: Percy Hazelwood, Kelburn. 45 miles an hour; Gerald Belfield Bradshaw, Ktirori, 42 miles an hour; Percy Janies Helwon, Petone, 42 miles an hour: fines of £2 with costs were imposed on Walter Joseph Hewson, 40 miles an hour; William Simmons. Wellington, 4(1 miles an hour. Minor Offences. For having no heavy traffic licence. Raymond Charles Clark, Petone, was fined 30/-, with costs 10/-. Thomas Laurence Kenny, Silverstream. was fined £3 with costs 18/- for moving into the line of a vehicle he hnd overtaken before he was 18 foot clear. For cycling at night without a light the following were each fined 10/- with costs 12/-: Arthur Pcrrett. Heretaunga : David Highwood. Trantham: Victor William Garnham, Trantham. The following were fined 5/- with costs 12/-: Kenneth James Bneknoll, Silverstrenm: George Kurth. Silverstrcain.
