Bullocks were cheaper by 10/- to 15/- a head throughout and cows and lieifers were down by as much as £l. tra prime heavy bullocks made lo £l7 7/6. prime heavy £l3/12/6 to £l5/12/6. medium £lO/7/6 to £l2/7/6, light down to £B/2/6; extra prime heavy cows and heifers to £l3/1.7/6, prime £B/2/6 to £9 7/6. medium £6/2/6 to £7/2/6, light from £4?2/6. Extra prime beef was worth about £l/16/- a 1001 b., prime £l/14/-; prime cow and heifer beef £l/12/-, poorer quality £l/5/-. There were several pens of good steers in the store cattle section, for which there was an entry ci 373 head. From £6/15/- to £B/15/- was paid for the best steers and vealers in a sliort entry made advanced prices. Dairy cows did not reach the same high prices as at the previous sale, best quality making to £ll 15/--The yarding of fat sheep totalled 2013 head, medium ewes making up the bulk of the offering. Prices from the start were on a par with late values and the sale was steady throughout. Competition was maintained through' the operation of country butchers and graziers. Extra prime heavy wethers brought to £l/17/3, prime heavy £l/10/- to £l/12/6, medium £l/6/- to £l/8/6, light down to 19/-; extra prime heavy young ewes to £1 9/9. prime heavy ewes £l/3/- to £l/8/9, medium 18/6 to £l/1/-, light from 13/-. Nearly 450 fat lambs were submitted, butchers competing for all heavy grades, while freezing buyers operated at lower schedules. There was a decrease over the market of about 9d. a head. Extra prime heavy butchers’ lambs made to £l/6/9, prime heavy to £l/3/6, medium £1 to £1 1/6, light, from 18/6. A total of 105 fat pigs was on offer, porkers increasing in value by 2/- to 3/a head, while bacouers went up to the extent of 5/- a head. Best baconers realised £4/15/- to £5/7/-, and porkers £2 5/- to £3/5/-.
