"AT HOME"

Farewell And Welcome At National Club Formal, vet informal, and undeniably enjoyable was the “at home” given at the National Club last night by the president and the coirfinittee. J lie "athering served a double purpose to bid farewell to Mrs. Guy Johnston, wife of the president of the club, who is leaving shortly for Australia, en route to England, and to welcome back the chairman of the club’s committee, I-I. F. Toogood, and Airs. CLoogood, who have just returned from a trip to Australia. ~ i. The clubrooms were beautifully decorated for the occasion, chrysanthemums in all their lovely autumn timings being used with great effect. Some of them were in bowls, some in vases and baskets and others in little mignonette green troughs. Particularly attractive were the huge crystal bowls and the art baskets of these blooms with which were mingled vivid red leaves. The library, the lounge, the main club room and the dining-room were all decorated in similar fashion, the last named having been transformed into a comfortable lounge for the occasion. . The guests were received by Mr. ana Mrs. Guy Johnston, the latter wearing a frock of black cire satin and cobweb lace, with a deep ruby shoulder spray. Mrs. Toogood was in black crepe de chine with an ivory satin vestee beaded in crystal and silver. With it were worn'turquoise blue accessories. Also present were the president of the New Zealand National Party, Mr. Claude Weston, K.C., and Mrs. Weston, who was in a frock of coronation blue lace. Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Toogood and Mrs. Weston were each presented by Mrs. G. F. Stone, president of the women’s section of the National Party, with a bouquet of autumn blooms. During the early part of the evening a background of soft and lilting pianoforte music was provided by Mr. Leslie Souness. A savoury buffet supper was served and later a dance was held, the music being played by Mrs. Searle. The Royal toast was proposed bv Mr. Johnston, after which Mr. Toogood introduced the two speakers for the evening, Mr. O. C. Mazengarb and an official of the British Medical Association. Before supper was served, all present drank to the health of Mr. and Mrs. Johnston and wished the latter the best of luck during her trip abroad. She will be accompanied as far as Sydney by her husband.

The' committee responsible for the arrangements comprised Mrs. G. F. Stone. Mrs. Graham Robertson, Mr. H. F. Toogood, Mr. O. C. Mazengarb, Mr. H. I. Graves, Mr. W. B. Matheson, Mr. G. Berry, Mr. Grant Taylor, Mr. C. Budd.
