Trade With Switzerland

Sir,—lt is with much gratification that we read in this morning’s "Dominion., that a “favoured-nation trade agreement has been concluded with Switzerland, with a correspondingly favoured tariff on both sides. This will stimulate trade between Switzerland and New Zealand, and enable each other’s products to be exchanged where previously trade was small or was not possible at all. There is a considerable community of interest between these two countries and their people, so that a closer union in trade is very desirable. , , In the past Switzerland was heavily handieapped as compared with other European countries such as Belgium, Sweden, Germany, with whom “favour-ed-nation” conditions have existed for some time, so that the present agreement is long overdue. Our Government and the Swiss Government are to be congratulated on the agreement, which will assist trade and promote mutual goodwill.—l am, etc., INTERNATIONAL TRADER. Wellington, May 6.
