FURTHER RACES TO-DAY

Third Qualifying Event By Telegraph.—From Overcheck.' Christchurch. April 25. The third day of the inter-Dominion ehampionship meeting will be held tomorrow, when three heats of two miles are to be decided in the third qualifying event. i . The-question of whether Supertax is capable of running such a journey has been keenly debated and opinion on the point is about evenly divided. The writer Was of opinion that such a distance would be beyond him, but after witnessing his sustained and devastating ruu over the last four furlongs of Saturday’s heat, is now prepared to see him run a good race at two miles, provided that the pace is not on all the way. Apart from the horses that have already been placed in the various heats, those that may be expected to do better | over the longer journey are Willow Wave j and Indianapolis, both of whom have been handy at the finishes of the two shorter heats. Bonny Azure, too, must be considered as she ran a good fourth on Saturday after being at the tail of the field in the early stages through her failure to go away correctly. Parisienne, King's Warrior, who will be bracketed with Bonny Azure, and Indianapolis may make the strongest appeal in the first heat of the qualifying event, and will probably be supported in the order given. Indianapolis may show greatest improvement as a result of the two races he has had, but Parisienne is generally regarded as better at tw’o miles than at any other distance, and the backmarker mav find it difficult to concede her 48/yards. Lucky Jack, Willow Wave and Graham may be in most demand in the second heat, and it is difficult to go past the two first-named on‘form displayed on the first two days. Reporter was decidedly unlucky the first day, through having his sulky damaged just, when beginning his run. Graham Direct has been rather disappointing but is capable of better things than he has so far accomplished at this meeting. x Of'those in the third heat, King’s Play has raced consistently and has been finishon in each of his races and should find the longer journey more to his liking. Pot Luck ran an improved race on Saturday and may follow. King’s -Play in order of favouritism. Evicus has raced consistently and should go > well. Then there is Supertax. Whether he will stay the distance is problematical, but his current , form suggests that he may do so if the pace is not on throughout. Roi I’Or may do best of the others, specially if Free Holmes has the drive. Horses likely to be in demand are:— Melbourne Handicap: Walter Wrack, Garner and Aristotle. Sydney Handicap: Red Pigeon, Ferry Post, Lightning Lady. Third Qualifying Event,—First heat: Parisienne, King’s Warrior, Indianapolis. Kaikoura Handicap: Renown’s Best, Ginger Jack, Recess.
