PONTOON FOR NEW DREDGE

West Coast LaunchingBy Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth, April 25. The pontoon of the Ikamatua dredge, the third largest on the West Coast, was launched on Saturday, in the presence of a large gathering, for the Grey Rive r Dredging Company. The company has 14 years’ work in sight. The dredge will cost £137,500, and is unusual in being operated with only one “spud,” or beam of steel, weighing 37 tons. The dredge has 80 buckets, each of 16 cubic feet capacity, and the steel ladder weighs 100 tons. The pontoon is 1474 ft, long, 65ft. wide, and lift. deep.

The dredge will be electrically driven by power from Lake Coleridge.
