RUGBY FOOTBALL
R. J. Thomas To Return To Wellington The Victoria College Rugby Football Club will gain a useful front-row forward when R. J. Thomas rejoins it- at Easter. Thomas has resided in Auckland for the past five years, and while there he played in the front row of the University first fifteen’s pack. Born at Wairarapa, Thomas played for the Victoria University College first fifteen for a time and later transferred to the Waikato, where he played for Wai-kato-King Country at Hamilton in the match which Australia won by 30 points to 10 in 1931. He also represented the King Country in 1932. Settling in Auckland five years ago, Thomas soon became an outstanding member of the University pack, and in 1935 he toured Japan with the New Zealand Universities’ team. On
his return he represented Auckland against Waikato, and has frequently played for the Auckland B team. He played for the North Island university colleges against the corresponding South Island team at Wellington in 1936 and again at Dunedin in 1937.
