By Telegraph—Press Association.
Pahiatua, April 4.
A ear driven by Mr. I’. Udy, labourer, Tiraumea, fell over a 100 ft. bank at 9 o’clock on Sunday night about, three miles from Pongaroa. It is understood the accident was caused by the ear striking a culvert in a watertable into which the car had inadvertently been driven. The car slewed across the road and careered down the slope. , , t The driver jumped clear, but a passenger, Mr. J. Kinivan, employed as a roadman by the Eketahuna County Council, was thrown into a creek, from which he was extricated by Mr. Udy. The latter managed to regain the road and sought assistance. Two hours later Mr. Kinivan was taken to hospital at Pongaroa. Later an ambulance was summoned from Pahiatua and took both men to the Pahiatua Hospital. Mr. Kinivan is understood to have received a fractured spine and Mr. Udy’s injuries are believed to be internal.
