BILL TO JAPANESE
British Losses On Yangtse
(Received March 25, 8.40 p.m.) London, March 25. The Shanghai correspondent of “The Times” says that the British Embassy has presented Japan with a bill for £lOB,OOO for losses on the Yangtse on December 5, 11 and 12. This includes the merchantman bombed at Wuhu but excludes the shelling of H.M.S. Ladybird, for which a separate claim is being lodged. A message from Chengchow says the Chinese claim that they are holding up the Japanese advance on a 440-mile front from Shensi to the sea. They are manning hundreds of pill-boxes along the banks of the Yellow River.
