BEEF MARKET FIRM Dominion Special Service. FeUding, March 25. The Feilding stock sale to-day was again very quiet. A much smaller yarding than usual came forward. Mutton was in short supply, but this did not have any upward effect on prices. Store sheep sold slowly, the bulk of the entry being confined to lambs, which brought prices about on a par with last week. Store cattle were slightly easier, but for beef the market was firm, with good prices. Following are the realisations. Fat sheep: Best sorts, 20/- to 21/6; prime medium, 15/10 to 10/9; 14/9; extra prime two-tooths, 25/6; prime finished wethers, 24/6 to 25/6; lighter grades, 22/9 to 23/9; unfinished, 16/6 to 20/-; choice heavy lambs, 27/9; average prime, 20/6 to 22/6; light, 16/8 to 19/-. At the Dannevirke stock sale yesterday Williams and Kettle, Ltd., offered a good yarding of sheep of all classes and a fair yarding of cattle, principally dairy sorts. The demand was good and : all lots met with fair competition, practically a total clearance being effected. Mangaweka Cattle Fair Dominion Special Service. Mangaweka, March 25. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Distributing Company had an entry of 800 cattle and 700 sheep iat the Mangaweka cattle fair yesterday. The yarding of cattle was the best ever seen in Mangaweka. The quality of the bullocks was outstanding and the cattle AS_ a whole came forward in excellent condition. Despite the dry summer competition was keen on all grown bullocks showing condition and quality, but the bidding on female cattle and young steers was inclined to be erratic. The top price for bullocks was £ll/14/-, for a very nice line of 27, account Mr. J. McDonald; 32 account Moyle Brqs realised £ll/9/-: account Mr. F. Healey, £ll/8/-; account Mr. G. Zohs, £lO/12/-; very nice line of 82 account Mr. W. Shaw, £9; splendid line of 24 18-month P.A. steers, account Mr. L. Weston, £7/18/6. The sheep entry was mostly small lots, but ewe lambs sold well and breeding ewes were quite firm on recent sales. At the Fordell sale the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., submitted a yarding of 2000 mixed sheep and 150 head of cattle to a good attendance of buyers. The ewes offered were average sheep, but met with a good de-: mand from Taranaki buyers, who also competed keenly for lambs, w.f. wether lambs making to 15/-. Cattle met with a good demand, a good line of 41 20month Hereford steers on account of Mr. A. Cameron, No. 1 Line, making £7/6/-. Following is the range of prices:— W-f. wether lambs, 15/- to 14/8; lowconditioned five-year ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 16/4 to 20/-; small two-tooth ewes, 22/6 to 27/-; fattening ewes, 8/1 to 9/-. At the Timaru ram fair to-day there was a yarding of 1465 sheep drawn from all parts of South Canterbury and even farther afield. The sale was one of the best held here for some years, prices showing an improvement on the recent fair at Christchurch and oil other fairs held in this district. The top price was 16] guineas for a Romney Marsh ram sold on account of Gilbert Giddings, Hairlij. Southdowna

At the Carterton sale yesterday, Wright, Stephenson’s offered an entry well up to advertised numbers. Sheep dragged somewhat, and prices were easier. Springing cows and heifers met with limited competition. Fat and forward cows sold at late rates, and heifers, r.w. bull, and heifer calves, made good prices. Porkers and baeoners sold at par rates, while weaner pigs were easier. Martinborough Sale Dominion Special Service. Martinborough, March 24. At the Martinborough stock sale yesterday the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency offered a good entry of sheep and cattle.
