GRAIN AND PRODUCE
Canterbury Markets By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, March 25. Deliveries of wheat have now almost ceased and it is not likely that much more will come forward till after the end of the month, when the first increment of a penny will go ou to the price. The harvest this year, with tbe excellent spell of weather and the increased use of mechanical appliances, has been probably the quickest on record. The grain has not been as high iu quality as might have been expected front the good conditions, but it is nevertheless very satisfactory. A small amount of steady business is passing in the seed trade, but there are annarently no big orders in the market. Offerings of cocksfoot and ryegrass from the country are now extremely limited, the bulk of the crops having evidently been cleaned up. Small quantities of white and red clover have made their appearance, but offerings have been very small so far. White clover so far seen has been of unattractive colour. Prices of all lines remain unchanged.
Oats and chaff are extremely quiet, with little demand. There is a fair inquiry for peas, but No. 1 grade are hard to find. Potatoes remain dull with no interest displayed by buyers, merchants or growers. It appears that blight has had little serious effect on crops ami certainly not enough to cause anything like a shortage. The South American position is still obscure ami until there is some definite uidication of what will be done there the market, is likely to remain spiritless.
