COACH ENGAGED

Canterbury Athletic Centre SERVICES TO BE SHARED WITH WELLINGTON Christchurch, March 25. Mr. A. L. Fitch, American track and field coach, will be engaged by the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association for the 1938-39 season. His services will be ■used to coach all Christchurch amateur athletes, give talks to local coaches, and develop athletics in secondary schools by coaching and by lecturing to masters. The decision to engage Mr. Fitch was made after a long discussion by the centre last evening, when Mr. It. Beattie outlined proposals which a subcommittee had drawn up. Mr. Beattie explained that Mr. Fitch had been brought from America by the Wel'ington Centre. Wellington had expressed willingness to share tiis services with another centre, and Mr. Fitch would spend alternate fortnights in Wellington and Canterbury. The total cost would be £6OO. this to be shared by the two provinces engaging him.
