"The Buccaneer" Regarded As Aid To Visual Education
FOLLOWING the screening of ‘‘The X Buccaneer,” starring Eredric March and produced by Cecil B. De Mille, the Paramount studios, ou behalf of Mr. DeMille, received from an American educational organisation the following resolution: —“That ‘The Buccaneer’ is an outstanding contribution to »American history in spreading knowledge of and creating interest in a most critical period of our national existence, and that appreciation and thanks be expressed to you and Paramount for this worthy aid to visual education.” “The Buccaneer” was recently previewed in Wellington by representatives of motion picture interests, and spontaneous applause at the conclusion is evidence that the film is assured of great public appreciation. The Wellington office of Paramount Pictures intends to encourage the interest of educational officers in New Zealand. Tbe film deals largely with the exploits of Jean LaFitte, the pirate of the early nineteenth century, and his participation in the memorable battle of New Orpeans in 1812.
