EXCHANGES IN HOUSE

Mr. Broadfoot And Mr. Carr Exchanges between Mr. W. J. Broadfoot (Opposition, Waitomo) and the Bev. C. L. Carr (Government, Timaru) during the committee stage on the Share-Milking Agreements Bill in the House of Representatives last evening led to the intervention of the ActingLeader of the House, Hon. P. Fraser, and a warning by the Chairman of Committees, Mr. E. J. Howard, that he would have to rule out interjections if they were personal. Mr. Broadfoot, speaking to the clause providing that inspectors may take proceedings on behalf of a share-milker, told the story of a shopkeeper who asked a man who entered his shop: ‘■Are you another inspector or a customer?” Mr. Carr took him up on this point, and in reply Mr. Broadfoot said he would like to inspect the member for Timaru. He also referred to the question of Mr. Carr’s nomination in the Labour interests for Timaru. Mr. Carr: Wait till the next election. I will be in and you will be out. Mr. Fraser, rising to a point of order, pointed out that it was the last, night of the session, and said he considered the remarks of Mr. Broadfoot were irrelevant.

Mr. liroadfoot: I resent the spearpoint of the Minister of Education being pointed at me. If his confreres interject they must take their gruel. 1 atn entitled to have a free discussion. Mr. Howard, intervening, said he would have to rule out interjections if they were personal.
