MOUNTS FOR L. J. ELLIS

Trentham Engagements Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, March 14. In addition to riding Whirling, Royal Chief and Brunhild at Trentham on Thursday, L. J. Ellis will have the mounts on Kindly and Alloa. H. Hibberd will ride Studley Royal and Floral Robe. Valmarch was at Riccarton this morning on his way to Trentham and, in company with Dictate, sprinted three furlongs on the plough in 38 2-5. He appears to be in excellent order for his engagement in the Tinakori Hack 'Handicap at Trentham on Thursday, but with Qst. to carry he will be troubled by the journey of seven furlongs and will encounter stronger opposition than in his recent races in the South Island. Polistina has been returned by F. Christmas to his owner at Greymouth, as there are no races in view in this district to suit her, and she will probably be got ready at Omoto for Easter racing on the West Coast. All the Riccartop horses for Trentham were shipped north to-night with the exception of Happy Night, Nightcalm and Kilrobe, who will go to-morrow.

Mr. G. R. MacDonald has disposed of his three-year-old filly Guinea Fowl, to the Wingatui trainer F. Shaw. She slqjwed marked promise when she won her first race, the John Grigg Stakes, at Ashburton, but has been a disappointment since.

Trench Fight, who recently developed splint trouble,, is to be put aside for the winter in the hope that he will be able to resume training for spring racing. ,
