Pernicious Literature

'The president, Miss M. G. Havelaar, at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women, congratulated Miss E. A. Chaplin on the stand she had taken about pernicious literature at the recent library conference, held at Nelson, and reported on the Government’s action in banning 29 of the magazines to which exception had been taken. Miss M. A. Trent spoke of the necessity of keeping a vigilant watch on these “pulp” magazines, as banned numbers sometimes came into the country again under other titles.

Two Bridge Parties

Two bridge parties, iu aid of the Miss A. Pattrick Memorial Fund, will be held at the Pluuket Rooms, 18 Kent Terrace, to-morrow aud Saturday, commencing at 7.45. p.m. These parties are being arranged by the registered nurses and Pluuket nurses, ami all interested are invited to attend. It is expected that there will be a good response on both occasions. Further details may be obtained by ringing phone 51-931.
