RETURNED SOLDIER BOWLERS

Annual Tournament HALE AND HUNTER TO MEET IN FINAL There was an excellent entry from all over Wellington district for the returned soldiers’ bowling tournament conducted on the Central (Pctone) and Hutt (Lower Hutt) greens yesterday. Five matches were played in each of five sections. The rinks skipped by Hale and Hunter will meet at a later date in the final. Section winners were Hunter, Hale, Hazelwood, Parker, Glennie. Hunter beat Hazelwood in the first semi-final, Parker, Hale and Glennie drawing byes. Hale beat Glennie in the second semifinal. Hunter beat Parker in the play-off to decide who would meet Hale in the final;

The executive was pleased with the splendid gathering of “digger" bowlers at both greens, said the Hon. AV. Perry, M.L.C., president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, at the Central green. The tournament wps becoming so popular that soon five bowling greens would be required. A number of South African veterans were among the players, including, a special rink from Masterton. In one game between two rinks there were seven South African veterans playing.
