“The Hurricane” And “Wedding Group” .
Samuel Goldwyn’s long-awaited film version of “The Hurricane” begins.today at the King's Theatre. It introduces an important new star in Jon Hall, a handsome young man of magnificent ■physique, whom Goldwyn selected over leading Hollywood names to play, Terangi, the native hero of the storyi Dorothy Lamour appears opposite him as the South Sea belle. Marama, and also scores a triumph. The story, which is set on the low island of Manukura, 600 miles from Tahiti, opens with the wedding of the native lovers, Terangi and Marama. Their short-lived happiness ends abruptly when Terangi, returning to Tahiti with the schodper of which he is. first mate, strikes a drunken white man who insults him. Ternngi is imprisoned. He attempts to escape, but is apprehended and his sentence extendln the ensuing five years he makes several unsuccessful attempts, and in his final break accidentally kills a guard. Terangi finds his way to his native, island, but has to take refuge on a neighbouring island, where he is reunited with his bride and sees his little daughter. While the search for him is at its height, the gjent hurricane begins to blow. Unmindful of his own safety, Ternngi goes to 'Manukura to warn the inhabitants, nnd plays a heroic role in the great catastrophe. Although most of the inhabitants of the island are lost. Terangi is able to save his wife and chad and others. The supporting feature will be “Weddin.g Group,” a tale of the Crimean War period, with the celebrated English actress. Fay Compton, playing the" part of Florence Nightingale. Barbara Greene is also starred.
