CR. C. H. ANDREWS’ RESIGNATION

Eastbourne Council Nine years a member of the Eastbourne Borough Council, Cr. C. H. Andrews, who is leaving to reside at Auckland, tendered his resignation to last night’s meeting of the council. He has been 40 years in Wellington and 16 years resident at Eastbourne. He was a member of the council from 1925 to 1929, and from 1933 until last night. The mayor, Mr. E. W. Wise, said that if Cr. Andrews decided to take up local body work”in Auckland any body he was elected to or any people he represented would get an excellent man. Cr. Andrews had been guided always by the desire to do solely, what was best in the borough’s interest,-said Cr. M. E. Magill. No personal consideration entered into his work as a councillor. If he ever erred it was on the side of caution when some others were inclined to plunge. . The reserves committee was losing a good friend, said Cr. Bowie. Eastbourne was part of him, said Cr. Andrews in reply. He had learned from his association with the borough council. He had found his council experiencg helpful in the commercial world. The resignation was received with regret and appreciation recorded of the excellent service given tne borough by Cr. Andrews. Later a social was held at the residence of the mayor and mayoress, at which a presentation was made to Mr. Andrews.

The council decided not to fill the vacancy.
