Distribution Of Selznick's Future Productions.
advice putting an end to the rumours concerning the future business activities of David 0. Selznick, the Hollywood producer, and the distributing arrangements for his future productipns, has been received by Mr. Bernard Allen, General Manager for United Artists (A’sia) Pty. Ltd. The cable received from his company’s .New; York office reads as follows:—“Can emphatically cleny that Selznick r is joining Metro-Gold wynMayer. An official statement issued by Selznick and Whitney, owners of Selznick International Picture Corporation, reads, ‘We have this night definitely terminated negotiations with Metro and. Loew’s Incorporated for a releasing affiliation for Selznick International pictures due to fundamental differences primarily concerning sales policies affecting production.’ ” Selznick is ; to-day an important film T maker in Hollywood. Six years ago .when his name was first coupled with
so-called class pictures, observers in the industry predi«jßfl that he would soon be ruined maltsßg motion pictures that lacked the sensational element. They were wrong. The 35-year old producer went a step further. He took Charles Dickens down from the shelf, blew the dust of prejudice off that worthy author and broke box office records with his famous screen translations of “David Copperfield” and “A Tale of Two Cities.” “A Star is Born” and “The Prisoner of Zenda” are two of his recent successes already released in the Dominion.
