Monthly Meeting Of Council

Dominion Special Service. Levin, February 23. At this month’s meeting of the Levin Borough Council advice was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands appointing the council controller of the Wniopehu Scenic Reserve for a further period of five years. The Board of Health wrote asking whether plans for the introduction of a sewerage system had advanced during recent months. It was decided to make provision in next year’s estimates for the engagement of an engineer to advise on a scheme. . Cr. Bowen was appointed delegate to represent the council at the annual meeting of the Ilorowhenua Boys and Girls Agricultural Club. 'The council agreed to the county council’s suggested extension of the water supply along the Heatherlea West Road. The report of the abattoir manager, Mr. H. H. Townsend, revealed killings during the past month were almost double those for the corresponding month last year. Figures for last month are as follows, the corresponding figures for last year being given in Parentheses: Cattle ;>W (226): sheep and lambs, 1306 J 1 0-1) , pigs, 394 (320) ; calves, 140 (10m) ; retyrns, £341/9/11 (£llB/9/8).
