SUCCESSFUL SEASON

Manawatu Hunt Club Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, February 23. Recording one of the most successful seasons in the history of the hunt, the •annuaj report of the Manawatu Hunt Club, which was adopted at the annual meeting last night, reveals a satisfactory tina.ncial position and good prospects for the coming season. Mr. S. G. Perry presided in. the absence of the president, Hr. S? J. Thompson. In his report the president said the season opened on April 17 at Waituna and closed on July 31 with the steeplechase meeting at Levin. During the season 32 hunts were carded. The attendance at most of them was good, and the snort was of a High standard, The financial .positi.pn was fairly satisfactory. There was a small debit of £26 on the year’s working and the debit balance was increased to £77. ' The annual point-to-point steeplechase meeting at Levin was held on the racecourse and adjoining properties, and resulted in a good day’s sport. There was a fair attendance and a fairly good entry of outside horses. Thanks were due to those members of the hunt and other interested parties who made substantial donations to the trophy fund, which helped in showing a profit of more than £l4 on the meetiiyr. With the advent of the Saturday halfholiday most sporting events were held at the week-end. whereas in the past a ■ number were held on Wednesdays. To some of the members the holiday made no difference, but it should be a matter for serious discussion as to whether the hunt was acting in the interests of the \ sport and the members in leaving some Saturdays free Decause of other events held on that day.
