OBITUARY

Mr. Hugh Lloyd Thomas

London, February 22. The death has occurred of Mr. Hugh Lloyd Thomas, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the British Embassy in Paris. He fell and broke his neck in an amateur steeplechasing event lit the Derby races. Mr. Hugh Lloyd Thomas was born in ISSB and educated at Eton and at New College, Oxford. He entered the Diplomatic Service in 1912 and wnts promoted First Secretary of Legation in 1920 and Counsellor .in 1929. He served in Constantinople, Cairo, Rome, ami Madrid, and in 1924-29 was Diplomatic Private Secretary to the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, In 1029, when the Duke of Gloucester left on his Garter mission to Janan, Mr. Lloyd Thomas accompanied him. In 1929-35 lie was private secretary to the Prince of Wales and in 1935 wim appointed British Minister in Paris. Ib married the Hon. Guendaljne Bellow in 1910 and had one son, and three daughters. He received the C.V.O. in 1029.
