Master Cyklon Outgallops Cuddle MARE’S POOR SHOWING Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, February 22. Three Wanganui Cup candidates — Cuddle (Sim), Master Cyklon - (L. Stowe) aud Middle (Callahan), were associated in a mile gallop this morning. The first-named made a poor showing, being slow to begin, while the other pair went off at a fast pace, racing together to be well clear of Cuddle when they had settled down. They ran the first quarter in 25, the half in 50, and live furlongs in 1.2, keeping together) with Master Cyklon on the outside. Cuddle was several lengths back, aud was never able to make any impression on the leaders. Over the last bit Master Cyklon drew out to beat Middle by a length in 1.41 1-s—one of the fastest miles ever done on the track, which was in splendid order and condition favourable to fast time.
Middle ran a mile last week by hiniOelf in 1.43 1-5, and is better now than evqr, and with his light impost must be hard to beat in the Cup. Master Cyklon is also in great fettle, probably as fit as ever previously, and his was a most attractive one. Cuddle's display wa s very disappointing—too bad to be true, but although she has previously won after similar showings in a trial, it is hard to visualise her winning on Thursday even with L. J. Ellis in the saddle. Scarf Dance (W. Rayner) and Icing (F. Latham) shaped in. impressive style in a spin over six furlongs, which occupied 1.14 4-5, with Icing doing it nicely. She must have a big chance iu the Tayforth Hack if she can get going right. Scarf Dance has definitely improved, and . should run a good race in the maiden. •
' Trebor pleased by the way he shaped in company with Alloa over'six furlongs, run in 1.17 1-5. Gaily'jumped off from the five-furlong peg, while the Cup horses claimed attention. She appeared to be going very fast, and finished up in fine style. She must be handy in the Peke Hack. z - Parry put in a useful gallop over six furlongs, taking 1.18. . He was picked up at the' three, furlongs by Morning Flight, a two-year-old by Laughing Prince, who is not engaged here. Parry is a much-improved sort. Captain. Treville shaped particularly well in a half-mile flutter in company, with Lady Hoariri, in which he had the better of it, the time being 49 J. S. Edwards has been engaged to ride Amatory and Rhodesian on Thursday, and will have the mount on Naughty Marietta on Saturday.
