GREEN BELT

Preserving Areas Near London (British Official Wireless.) (Received February 18, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, February 17. In connection with the provision of London’s green belt, the Surrey County Council is endeavouring to preserve from extensive change the crest and southern slopes of North Downs. Of 5000 acres running on the highlands between Dorking and Guildford, about one-fourth is represented by public commons, and the council hopes, by agreement with landowners, to keep a further 2000 acres free from building development.
