GUARANTEED PRICE
Compensation Wanted For Rising Costs Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, February 2. Members of the executive of the Manawatu Provincial Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union decided at their meeting at Palmerston North to-day, to protest against the action of the Government in fixing a guaranteed price at the beginning of the season, it being alleged that the Government did not give sufficient consideration to the rise in costs of production during the season. Mr. A. Moreom, Rongotea, moved ou behalf of his branch that the Government 'should be urged to increase the guaranteed price for both butter and cheese to 'compensate for increased costs in all dairy factories occasioned by the making of the recent dairyworkers’ award. The chairman, Mr. H. T. McLeavy, said that the farmers would receive compensation for the increased costs, but the compensation would not be effective until the following year, when the new price was announced. Mr. G. J. Wilde then moved an amendment, which was carried, urging that the guaranteed price should be made retrospective to cover all increased costs during the past 12 months.
