RIVERS BOARD LOAN
Minister’s Assurance To Chairman Dominion Special Service. Hastings, February 2. “The Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash, when at Napier on Monday, assured me the matter would be attended to immediately he returned to Wellington and that very probably the money would be forthcoming.” This information was given to “The Dominion” today by Mr. C. Lassen, chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board, when questioned about the difficulty local bodies were experiencing in raising loans at the interest rate prescribed by tlie Local Government Loans Board, namely 3j per cent. Mr. Lassen said his board last year was refused permission to borrow £60,000 at 3J per cent for the Ngaruroro River work. The Minister of Finance had then given an assurance that if the money could not be raised at 3j per cent, it would be found by the State Advances Corporation.
