VIOLENT EXPLOSION
Explosives Factory In Ayrshire SIX PEOPLE KILLED Houses 15 Miles Away Shaken Uy Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 28, 5.5 p.m.) London, January, 27. An explosion in the gelatine-mixing shed at the Nobel works at Ardeer, Ayrshire, killed six people, including a woman. The explosion was marked by two reports, 10 minutes apart, which wrecked the mixing-house in tlie blasting department, demolished the magazine, blew out windows three miles away, shook houses 15 miles distant and caused a panic in the district. Twelve people were injured, not seriously, in addition to the death-roll. The second explosion, in which a woman who escaped tlie first was killed, flung, a huge sheet of flame above the skyline. This was followed by dense clouds of smoke, but no buildings subsequently caught fire. Families anxiously greeted crowds of girls streaming from the gates after the disaster. The cause of the explosion is unknown, and as all the occupants of the mixing-house perished, it may not be ascertainable.
