TUTAEKURI RIVER CONTROL
“A Complete Success” Dominion Special Service. Napier, January 27. "The manner in which the Tutaekuri River was controlled within its new banks in one of the biggest floods in recent history stamps the board's scheme as a complete success,” said the secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board, Mr. W. J. O’Connell, to-day. "The volume of water which came down the channel at the beginning of the week was tremendous, but there was never the slightest trouble.” Tlie board’s engineer, Mr. Guy Rochfort, expressed n similar view as Mr. O’Connell’s. The new mouth, said Mr. Rochfort, had functioned just as it li:nl been desired it should do, and not the slightest difficulty had been encountered. Mr. Rochfort is now making an examination of the banks of the Ngaruroro River, particularly points at which the river overflowed on Tuesday.
