CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE
Outlook Thought Uncertain Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, January 27. A catalogue of 30,103 bales will be offered at, the second Christchurch wool sale on Monday. The offering is typical of Christchurch January sales, consisting mainly of halfbred ewe wools from the plains and lower hills, and containing a strong representation of the best clips of the province. There are a few crossbred clips from the Chatham Islands and Banks Peninsula, but in the main the offering is of line wools. Usually the second sale here attracts a great deal of extremely high quality wool. This is the case again this year, but in general the quality is a little disappointing, as wet weather just before shearing has produced more yolk stain than usual. There is much wool of high quality, but few of the clips are as showy as usual. Buyers began valuing to-day, but even they have no clear idea of how the sale will turn out. The uncertainty overseas that has marked this season still prevails, but it is probable that values will not be up to those received at the first sale this year. Buying recently in the North Island has been rather more free on Bradford account, but the bulk of the wools is still being taken by Continental operators, who appear to be working to . rigid limits. The outlook is uncertain, but most growers appear to be content to take the market value provided there is no disastrous recession from the levels of the first sale.
