Power Board’s Discussion Dominion Special Service. Lovin, January 27. In response to a communication from the Department of Industries and Commerce received at this month’s meeting of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board, requesting the board’s eo-operatiou in the use of New Zealand-made insulators, it was stated that the department could be assured that other things being equal the board would purchase the New Zealandmade article. Mr. Monk stated that the cost of the New Zealand insulator was 12/9 a dozen as against 8/3 a dozen for the imported article. Mr. Vlckerman, in reply to a remark by Mr. Hyde, stated that he had been informed that the Now Zealand article compared more than favourably with the imported one as far as efficiency was concerned, but due to the dD-hour week ami higher wages the New Zealand firm was working under a disability. It was decided to inform the department that the board had always used tlie low-tension insulators, but desired results of tests with the high-tension variety. The following figures showing the increases in revenue earned to December 31, 1937, compared with the previous year, were given by the secretary, Mr. F. J. Ramsay :—Domestic supply, *£6os ; domestic water heating, £472; community lighting, £106; community waterheating, £7B: power, £321; guarantee, £22; street lighting, *£6o; net increase, £491. (♦Denotes a decrease.) The net sales amounted to £36,212. The engineer's report stated that three outdoor sub-stations had been ereeted and short extension lines made at Matai Road, Waikanac, Raumati, and Waitarere beaches. During the month 47 now consumers and 30 extensions had been connected. The total increase to the connected load is 279,357 k.w.a.
