Full Agreement In Award For Wellington District An amicable agreement was reached in Conciliation Council proceedings at Wellington yesterday on all clauses concerning conditions of employment for Wellington workers in the. concrete, pipe, pumice and concrete goods industry. The conciliation commissioner, Mr. M. _J. Reardon, presided. The award, which is applicable to the Wellington district, will operate on and after February 9 for one year. Those representing the parties were as follows:—Employers: Messrs. Turksma, R. J. Murphy, A. H. M. Wright and A. W. Nisbet; employees: Messrs. A. K. Bell, R. N. Shaw, H. F. Morgan and B. M. Butler. Each party sought and agreed to a 40hour week, and agreement was also reached on the following wage scales: — Foremen, without overtime, £6 a week; head moulders, 2/8| an hour; metal moulders, 2/8; cement sprayers, 2/7|; junction fitters and pattern makers, 2/7; concrete mixers, breeze block machinists, pre-cast stone mixers, moulders lining pipes by the spraying process, 2/6J; metal reinforcement welders, metal reinforcement makers, concrete roofing tilers, assemblers, 2/6; concrete or pumice copper makers, 2/54 ; all other workers, 2/44. Youth employees between 16 and 17 years of age are to commence at a wage of £1 weekly rising by six-monthly stages of 5/. to £3/10/-. Ordinary holidays are to be observed as well as the days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day which are to be observed ns paid holidays. The award also included country and suburban work clauses.
