OBITUARY

Miss Laurie Ferguson After an illness extending over two months the death occurred at Napier yesterday of Miss Laurie Ferguson, the 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Ferguson, of Coleman Terrace, Napier. Mr. Ferguson is manager of Blyth’s, Ltd., Napier. All-In-One Compacts Some compacts to-day would serve the purpose of evening bags. One of gold seen recently was decorated with a tapestry design and painted over with a clear lacquer finish to prevent tarnishing. It contained space for cigarettes, lipstick, powder, rouge and cream, and packed in beside the large mirror was a small gold comb. Another compact, suitable for a traveller, was of slightly larger size than usual, round in shape, and deep. It contained space for almost a box of powder, and fitted in to a leather case with a handle. Another contained the new triple mirror, which to look at is something like a dressing-table in miniature, a large square mirror in the centre, and two smaller mirrors at the sides. SIGNS OF OLD AGE. Characteristic features of approaching old age are dry and thin hair, decay of teeth and ringed and grooved nails. These are the results of diminished thyroid action. To ward off old age, the thyroid can be activated bv iodine in a special organic form, which is contained in the latest scientific discovery—a substance known as Thy redone, sold by chemists at 4/6.—Advt.
