TRANSPORT WORKERS’ PICNIC
4500 At Maidstone Park Upper Hutt had a one-day increase of 4500 in its population yesterday when three trains and numerous cars brought the Wellington transport workers to Maidstone Park for the biggest'picnic yet held on the ground. The organisation of the large gathering was very, good, and the day was enjoyed by all. A feature was the variety, number and value of the prizes and gifts distributed. Mr. R. J. Seal was picnic secretary. The general secretary of the New Zealand Walersiders’ Union, Mr.’J. Roberts, was present and acted as a judge for highland dancing events.
